Pride in service. Room for support.

You can be proud of what you have given—and still need care

Service can bring purpose, skill, camaraderie, and a deep commitment to something larger than yourself. It can also ask a great deal of you: time away from family, interrupted sleep, physical strain, difficult decisions, and exposure to experiences that stay with you.

For some, the weight comes from one event. For others, it builds across deployments, emergency calls, losses, or years of staying ready for the next crisis.

You may still be dependable at work while finding it harder to relax at home. You may feel exhausted, irritable, detached, or less interested in things that once mattered. Asking for help can feel unfamiliar when you are used to being the person others call.

Your service deserves respect. Your mental health deserves attention. You do not have to reach a breaking point before beginning that conversation.

When the demands follow you home

  • Low mood, emotional numbness, or a loss of motivation
  • Persistent anxiety, tension, or difficulty switching off
  • Nightmares, unwanted memories, or avoiding reminders
  • Disrupted sleep, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating
  • Withdrawal, irritability, or strain in relationships
  • Grief, guilt, or distress about events that conflict with your values

These experiences can have different causes. A thoughtful assessment helps identify what needs treatment and what kind of support fits.

The person behind the role

Care that recognizes your experience

There is no single story of military or emergency service. We begin with yours.

Veterans and military families

Deployment, separation, loss, and the transition to civilian life can affect routines, relationships, and a sense of identity. Veterans of every branch and era—and military families carrying their own demands—are welcome to ask about care.

Police, fire, EMS and dispatch

From patrol and emergency response to the calls heard in a dispatch center, responsibility can extend beyond the end of a shift. We welcome career and volunteer personnel, corrections staff, and those who have retired from these roles.

The people who stand beside you

Partners and family members may notice changes before they know how to talk about them. You can ask how to support a loved one. Their clinical care proceeds with their participation, consent, and attention to privacy.

Advanced treatment. Individual attention.

Deep TMS for depression and PTSD: a path forward

At Pembrooke NeuroWellness Center, BrainsWay Deep TMS uses magnetic stimulation to influence brain networks involved in mood regulation. Treatment is non-invasive, takes place while you are awake, and does not require anesthesia.

Deep TMS may be worth discussing when depression continues despite medication or psychotherapy, or when medication side effects make treatment difficult. BrainsWay also has FDA clearance for reducing anxiety symptoms that occur alongside adult depression. The aim is to help you move toward a life with more energy, connection, and emotional balance.

Deep TMS is part of a growing field of brain-based care that extends beyond depression, including research into PTSD, emotional regulation, and cognitive functioning. At Pembrooke, we bring that broader perspective to a treatment plan centered on you.

Your care starts with what matters to you: relief from depression and PTSD symptoms, greater emotional balance, and renewed connection with everyday life. Our team listens to your experience and builds a personalized Deep TMS treatment plan around your goals.

The goal is a plan that makes sense for you. Deep TMS may be one part of that plan, alongside psychotherapy, psychiatric care, medication management, or coordination with an existing provider.

Your evaluation is a chance to review your health history, discuss your goals, and ask questions. Our team explains the treatment process personally so you can make an informed, confident decision.

Why we use BrainsWay

Deep TMS: a broader approach to brain stimulation

Brain health involves connected networks that help you manage mood, respond to stress, focus, and regulate emotions. Deep TMS is designed to influence selected networks through gentle magnetic pulses delivered by BrainsWay’s patented H-coil technology.

A different coil design

Standard TMS commonly uses a figure-eight coil that concentrates stimulation into a smaller area near the brain’s surface. BrainsWay’s H-coil uses an arrangement of wire windings built into a helmet to create a broader magnetic field that can reach deeper cortical tissue.

Less dependence on a tiny spot

A narrow stimulation field makes exact placement especially important. The H-coil covers a broader treatment region, making it less sensitive to small positioning differences. The fitted helmet helps maintain contact and consistent placement during sessions.

Why that matters

Brain anatomy differs from person to person. Broader coverage may help engage the intended treatment region despite that variation. Deep TMS still requires mapping, correct helmet placement, and an appropriate protocol; its design reduces some positioning sensitivity rather than removing targeting altogether.

A meaningful advantage in a direct depression comparison

In an independent randomized study of 228 adults with major depression, about 67% receiving H1 Deep TMS responded, compared with 44% receiving figure-eight TMS, after four weeks. Both TMS groups continued medication. “Response” meant depression symptoms decreased by at least half.

The stronger depression response in this study offers an encouraging reason to consider BrainsWay Deep TMS. Our team combines advanced technology with individualized treatment planning and attentive follow-up.

Gentle magnetic pulses, with care tailored to you

Gentle magnetic pulses pass through the scalp without surgery or anesthesia. You remain awake and may notice rhythmic tapping at the treatment site. Our team stays attentive to your experience throughout the session.

The H1 coil used in our depression program is designed to stimulate prefrontal networks involved in mood regulation. Its wire arrangement shapes the stimulation field; the prescribed pulse pattern controls how stimulation is delivered. Both are part of a purposeful treatment approach.

What we have observed in our clinical work

At Pembrooke NeuroWellness Center, Director Colin M. Browne, Ph.D., reports observing significant improvements among individual patients in depression, anxiety, PTSD symptoms, and concentration, as well as reductions in suicidal ideation. Those changes can be meaningful steps toward feeling more like yourself.

We follow the changes that matter in everyday life: feeling more present, managing emotions, concentrating, and reconnecting with people and activities. Your goals guide the conversation, and your progress guides your care.

Research that offers reason for hope

Deep TMS and reductions in suicidal thoughts

When depression brings thoughts of death or suicide, relief means more than a lower score. It can mean more space to think, reconnect, and imagine a future. We have observed reductions in suicidal ideation among individual patients, and published research is examining this important outcome.

Documented improvement during treatment

A 2026 exploratory analysis of a multisite depression trial found meaningful reductions in suicidal ideation with both standard daily and accelerated H1 Deep TMS. Improvement began sooner in the accelerated group.

A promising controlled study

A randomized study of 39 hospitalized adults with depression and active suicidality documented improvement in suicidal-thought intensity within the active Deep TMS group by day 10. This research adds to the conversation about relief and recovery during depression treatment.

Celebrating the people who serve

We honor the United States military and the people who protect and care for Charles County: the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, local police personnel, career and volunteer firefighters, rescue and EMS teams, dispatchers, and corrections staff.

Service is more than the hardest day. It is also teamwork, leadership, professional pride, mentoring, and the everyday acts that help a community feel safer. Those contributions deserve to be celebrated.

Taking care of your mental health can support the life you have built beyond the uniform: your relationships, your interests, and the future you want for yourself.

Practical questions

Veteran and first responder care: FAQs

Do I need to have PTSD to request an evaluation?

No. You may be seeking help for depression, anxiety, sleep-related concerns, grief, or difficulty functioning. You do not need to have a trauma diagnosis to begin a conversation about care.

Can I use TRICARE or VA Community Care?

Ask our team about TRICARE East and VA Community Care Network Region 1 participation and your specific benefits. TRICARE covers outpatient TMS for adult major depression when its requirements are met. VA Community Care requires a VA referral and authorization for the covered care. Bring your plan information and any referral documents so the team can review next steps.

Will treatment fit around shifts or family commitments?

Talk with the team about available appointment times and the proposed treatment schedule. Deep TMS usually requires repeated visits. Most people can return to usual activities afterward; work readiness and any restrictions depend on your symptoms, clinical advice, and job requirements.

What about confidentiality and my career?

Your privacy matters. Our team can walk you through how records, insurance billing, and communication with other providers are handled, including questions specific to military and public safety roles. We help you understand the process so you can move forward with confidence.

Is TMS only relevant to depression?

No. At Pembrooke, we consider Deep TMS within personalized care for depression and PTSD, with attention to anxiety symptoms, emotional regulation, and cognitive concerns. Your care is personalized to support your goals and the everyday improvements that matter to you.

Can my family help me get started?

Yes. A loved one can encourage you, help organize questions, and ask about appointment logistics. Decisions about treatment and sharing clinical information involve your consent and applicable privacy rules.

What if I need help immediately?

For immediate danger, call 911. For crisis support, call or text 988. Veterans and service members can call 988 and press 1 for the Veterans Crisis Line. This website form is not monitored as an emergency service.
